"TRUE LOVE"

"Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins."
~James 5:19-20

Our society today equivocates love to tolerance, but in actuality nothing could be further from the truth. If a parent allowed their child to climb up on a rooftop and jump off, because they really wanted to fly, would anyone say they were showing love? Absolutely not! In the same way that the parent above would be standing by as their child plummeted to their physical death, when we condone a sinful, destructive lifestyle in our fellow man, we are standing by as they plummet to their spiritual death. All in the name of love, of course!

Jesus never showed love by being accepting of sin. Many people use the example of the woman caught in adultery to spread their message of tolerance:

“If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her” ~John 8:7

But, what they fail to do is finish the story:

“Then neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.”
~ John 8:11

Jesus showed love by forgiving her and turning her away from her sin, not by leaving her in it.

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.”~ Romans 12:9-10

True love means loving others enough to uphold the truths of God's Word, to want what is best for them and not just what is easy or comfortable for us.

"Tolerance is the virtue of those who don't believe anything."
~ G. K. Chesterton
